Like many conditions that once were accepted as part of getting older, loss of vision due to cataracts can now be corrected in most cases. Cataract surgery is one of the most common and effective operations performed today. The surgeon removes the cloudy lens and replaces it with a clear intraocular lens that becomes part of the eye. About 90 percent of patients experience improved vision from the surgery.

Cataracts, which cloud the lens of the eye, are found in more than half of all Americans over the age of 65. Cataracts begin to form around age 55 for most of us, though they have been found in much younger people. It can take many years before you notice any symptoms, but each day your vision continues to worsen. No one really knows why cataracts form. But they are extremely common and should be examined by an eye care professional.

Using our state-of-the-art facilities at the Eye Surgery Center of East Tennessee, cataract surgery:

  • Is performed with no needles; anesthesia is applied topically with eye drops.
  • Requires no stitches; the doctor makes an incision that seals naturally.
  • Can reduce astigmatism.

Choose Your Cataract Surgeon Carefully

When it comes to cataract surgery or any procedure concerning your eyes, trust only a properly credentialed, experienced eye surgeon with a proven reputation.

Cataract surgery* is a safe and routine procedure, but it is still surgery. Today, cataract surgery is performed on an outpatient basis and takes only a few minutes.
Cataracts and many other sight-robbing eye conditions grow so slowly that you may not notice your vision declining, even when it has.

Warning Signs of Cataracts

  • Double vision.
  • Cloudy or blurry vision.
  • Poor night vision.
  • An aversion to glare or bright light.
  • Repeated changes in your prescription.

All of these warning signs can indicate other eye problems as well and should be checked by an eye care professional. Call Campbell, Cunningham & Taylor, P.C., today at 865-584-0905 to find out more.

Testimonials

“I lived on a farm for 20 years and, being on a tractor all day without protective eyewear, I developed cataracts at an early age. For years, I was nearly blind which made my life completely miserable. After the surgery, my life has dramatically improved. It is truly remarkable how I can not only work out in the yard but I can actually appreciate the colors of flowers once again. And I don’t have to wear glasses anymore!”
Donna Crossley - Knoxville

“I hadn’t realized how bad my sight had gotten. But, after the procedure, colors are so much more vivid, and I can see better in the dark. My life has really improved all around.”
